Texture
•Texture refers
to the tactile qualities of the physical surface of the object. In other
words, how does the surface of the work feel when you touch it?
•The
challenge of seeing and capturing texture is mostly based on one element -
light.
•Texture
can be accentuated by the side light of early sunny mornings or early evenings,
or by overhead light when the sun is vertical and high in the sky.

•Pattern is an underlying structure that
organizes surfaces or structures in a consistent, regular manner.
•
Pattern can
be described as a repeating unit of shape or form, but it can also be thought
of as the "skeleton" that organizes the parts of a composition.
Patterns are simply repeated shapes, colours or
objects, ordered in either regular or irregular formations. As a photographer,
using pattern is key to good composition and, when used effectively, can
transform an otherwise bland image into something dramatic and eye catching.
Patterns are formulated all around us - in both natural and man made settings.

Aaron Siskind was an American photographer. Siskind's work focuses on the details of things, presented as flat surfaces to create a new image independent of the original subject. He was closely involved with, if not a part of, the abstract expressionist movement. Personally i like the attention that hes paid to the detail as the contrast is really high and it creates a lot of depth. By his photos being in black and white it makes us focus on the texture rather than the colours as theyre not present.
Paul Canning
Paul Canning is an irish photographer who mainly focuses on pattern, he makes the colours quite vibrant by turning up the saturation and contrast. He specialises in advertising, editorial, fashion, portrait, landscape and urban photography. He is an internationally published Photographer, Digital Retoucher and Post-Production Specialist. Personally I really like the colours that are expressed within his photography and the patterns displayed. He usually focuses on things that have come from life or are still living like the plant I like this as its different as he finds patterns in nature.
Personally I love the patterns in this as these are
everyday objects that people would just walk past
by Canning has made them look so unique and
powerful by capturing the patterns displayed
within these photos.

Editing
Texture.
In this photo i edited it to appear like Siskind's
work by turning up the contast and reducing some colours to make the texture of the wall and deterioated window to stand out. I also turned down the brightness so the texture was more visable. I really like the way this photo has turned out as i feel ived added my own twist on Siskind's work by having two different texture within one photo.
This photo appealed to me hence why i took the photo. It appealed to me because i like the way the floor is chipped and the contrast it creates and how the cigarette disrupts it but is also the eye-catching statement. I edited it like this to enhance the textures involved within the photo. I believe i framed this photo well as its appealing to the eye. I purposely did this so it resembles Siskinds work.
I believe this image stands out due to the way ive framed it conjined with the conker stuck between the drain and the pavement. Within editing my aim was to bring out as many textures as possible and to create more depth, i believe that i have achieved this within editing in photoshop.
Pattern
In this photo i tried to focus on defining the lines of the London street art; so the pattern of the art would be more defined. To make it more eye catching i enhanced thet colours which in turn created more depth and added to the highlights. Unlike Canning i didnt photograph an object i photographed street art of an object but personally i believe it turned out really good.
For this image I tried to make the shadows more visible to enhance the pattern of the rose but not too overpowering and to make the red pop a bit more as Canning focuses upon the pattern as well as the vibrant colours present. I believe I achieved this by making subtle changes to enhance my photo.
I believe this is a good photo from my shoot as you can distinguish the pattern the flower is taking and the depth and light involved in that. I tried to focus on nature as does Canning to make my photos appear similar. In addition I also made my photos close up so the individual patterns were more visible. I used a pinkish her to embrace the colours of the flower because in the original photo they weren't as vibrant as I wished them to be. personally I like the way the photo has turned out as you can see the descending spiral pattern of the flower which attracts the eye.
The colours in this photo really screamed to me although due to the harsh sun the depth was hidden a bit so I turned up the contrast and turned down the brightness to reinstore the depth of the flower so its pattern was more visible. Some of the colour on top of the petals was deducted by the harsh sunlight so I added a yellow - orange hue to correct this as well as turning down the vibrance.
I was inspired by Canning photo of the snake skin to take this photo. Personally I liked how I framed this as some of the snake isn't in focus but the part in the middle is focused which draws out attention to it and the details involved in the snake skin. i wanted to make the ' criss cross ' lines of the snake more apparent, to do this I turned up the contrast and grammar correction. I also put a yellow hue on top to make her colours stand out more as Canning draws a lot of his attention towards the vibrance of the colours within some of his photos, and I like that he does that as it has inspired me to do the same.
I believe that I have produced a strong series of images inspired by my research of texture and pattern, composition and the images of Aaron Siskind and Paul Canning... The final images produced for texture were refined by developing the contrast and converting them into black and white images. The final images for pattern were refined by developing the contast, vibrance and selective colour.
