Form
Definition & theory
Form refers to when shape takes on three dimensions. Form is created by shadows and highlights on an object in the photograph. You can see in these two photos how shape becomes form when light hits the subject. ... But, when they come to the surface, the light creates shadows and highlights, giving them form.
I have included the following visual examples which relate to the above theory

Research (of artists and techniques)
Irving Penn was an American photographer known for both his commercial and fine art work. Using both large format and 35mm cameras, he regularly turned his lens on street debris, animal skulls, and flowers, in addition to his glamorous images of celebrities. He was one of the twentieth century's great photographers, known for his arresting images and masterful printmaking. Although he was celebrated as one of Vogue magazine's top photographers for more than sixty years, Penn was an intensely private man who avoided the limelight and pursued his work with quiet and relentless dedication. At a time when photography was primarily understood as a means of communication, he approached it with an artist's eye and expanded the creative potential of the medium, both in his professional and personal work.

The prints were created to achieve a deliberately high contrast which makes the objects stand out. The hand implys motion and controll as indicated by the way the hand is presented. The cigarrette image gives across connotations of aploof, as its deterioated and has just been left behind.
I gained inspiration from this by producing my own images based on the hand which converted to black and white.

The following images were added as part of my visual research.

This above collection of photographs(paintings by other artists/photographers) represent some of the images that I felt I could capture within my range of supplies. They represent a variety of forms, most of the images are quite abstract and shot in black and white (I decided that I would adopt a similar approach for my work).
(AO:1. You must ensure that several of the visual ideas/inspirations within the image bank are pursued. )

My Best images (target 4 - 6)
The following are selected as my best images.
I felt that these images werent that strong. In the teacup photo my iso was set to 1600 instead of 200 hence the overpowering light within the photo. Also the framing wasnt perfect as you can see the edge of the table.
The photo of the hand is still powerful but not in the way i desired as you cant see any detail on the hand and the light wasnt focused on the hand, thats why its so dark.
If i were to take these photos again i would make sure that the teacup was in focus. I will progress from this by checking my camera settings before i start taking photos to make sure the outcome is optimum.
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
My idea for recording form was to photograph different hands from the perspective of an old person and a young person as the different textures would create different shadows. I was inspired from my research of Irving Penn's hand images with regards to the shadows and contrast. His use of from, people hands and other objects gave me an idea to photograph different age hands and objects.
The images came out as I expected, however I had to pay particular attention to getting the right exposure settings.
With reference to the Best selected images...
in regards to the tea cup photo and the tea cup with sea shells, my inpspiration was from my visual research. my intentions were so you coukd see all the details and the form of the teacup and the shells. in editing i will convert this image to black and white to enchance this. i got the second photo from a different angle because it shows the shadows better.
the teacup in the glass photo i came up with that idea. i like the way
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
(Here you will discuss how you developed your work based on your research of e.g. artists/photographers, etc).

(It is important that you show a progression of your work… which may mean revisiting a subject area and adding additional images showing a development of your ideas or refinement of the final images through).
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
(At the end of the entry you will discuss whether you have produced a personal and meaningful response, this means (are my images creative/relevant to the subject area studied/connected and influenced by any research undertaken).
