refers to the lightness or darkness of something. This could be a shade or how
dark or light a colour
appears.
•Tones
are created by the way light falls on a 3D object. The parts of the object on
which the light is strongest are called highlights and
the darker areas are called shadows.
There will a range of tones in between the highlights and shadows.
•Without
tone Form does
not exist, tone is therefore an important aspect in the visualisation of
3D objects.
Zone System
Ansel Adams developed the zone system a method
of ensuring he achieved the correct exposure for his photos.The Zone System is a photographic technique for determining optimal film exposure and development, formulated by Ansel Adams and Fred Archer.
The contrast in this photo and the wide variety of tone connotes to masculinity and strength as it highlights the high pointss within his face which to me makes him appear stronger. The light is coming from the top centre to emphaise the depths of his face to create a serious overview. I believe it connotes masculinity as its mostly all a dark tone as it makes him look intimidating.
However in this photo femininity is communiated by the majority of high tones taking over the photo and the way the light is centred from behind the camera as barely no facial texture is visiable to enhance her beauty. Due to the way the light is positioned and how much light is being received by the camera it makes her look like a porcelin doll, very fragile and kind in other words.

A photographer that I researched was Imogen Cunningham. Imogen Cunningham was an American photographer known for her botanical photography, nudes, and industrial landscapes. Cunningham was a member of the California-based Group f/64, known for its dedication to the sharp-focus rendition of simple subjects..
The above images were taken using a high quality camera to capture the formal elements of the flowers. The lighting was specifically positioned to create different depth and shadows within each photo. The photos give a story of someone going on a walk in a forest and admiring the flowers. The photos technically don't have a time frame that they're set in as flowers have always been present.
I gained inspiration from this by producing my own images based on flowers which I subsequently converted to black and white to imitate her photos.
